During the winters of 1970-1973 our family spent our time traveling southeastern Idaho watching Terry and me wrestle for Teton High School. While Terry and I wrestled for Teton we enjoyed Alvin Dalley’s most successful years of coaching. During my freshman year our team lost one dual meet to Marsh Valley and then didn’t lose again until my senior year, which was to Bonneville, Idaho. During these 4 years, there were 17 wrestlers from Teton that ended up wrestling for a division 1 college wrestling program. During the state tournament of 1971 Teton had 10 of the 12 wrestlers make the state finals. Five ended up as state champs and the five ended up taking runner-up. Terry was a state champion and I ended my sophomore year as state runner-up. The next year (1972) Terry and I were on the team that finished the year undefeated and we had 8 state champions. Earlier in the year we had won the Soda Springs tournament beating Green River Wyoming by 4 points. At the time, Green River was ranked number 10 in the country. During 1973 Terry had gone on to wrestle at BYU and I won my second state championship for Teton. During these years Teton was the best team in Idaho, regardless of classification. Not bad for a high school with a 4 year student body of 280 students. I remember the family traveling all over the state watching us wrestle. I remember Brother Ward our seminary teacher taking his family over to watch the state tournament. I also remember Uncle Francis and Aunt LaRue taking their family to watch us as well.
