Family goes to Disneyland in 1968

  1. Our family trip to Disneyland in 1968
During school Christmas break of December 1968 our family went to Disneyland and Mesa, Arizona for Christmas. I can’t remember the day to day activities but it seems like we stopped at Las Vegas on the way down to California. If I remember correctly we visited the dam while in Las Vegas. We might have made a stop or two along the way as well but I’m not sure any more. I do remember staying with Milo Bowen down in California by Disneyland. Milo Bowen later moved to Bates, Idaho and served as our Bishop. We stayed with them for lodging but then we would spend our days over in Disneyland. Some of the rides I remembered are; the submarine ride, the bobsleds, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan, and of course mom’s favorite ride of all time (it’s a small world). I remember having a great time. Later in life when Tracey and I took our little family to Disneyland I wanted our kids to ride those same rides, especially the Bobsled. I also remember going to Knots Berry Farm. After leaving Los Angeles we headed south to San Diego. There we stayed with Uncle Warner. We hadn’t seen him before or at least I didn’t remember meeting him. While in San Diego we went to the San Diego Zoo and Sea World. However, I can’t really remember going to Sea World. After spending a day or two in San Diego we headed off towards Arizona. I think that we stayed one night with Aunt Cecil while passing through Yuma, Arizona. Next we were off to Mesa, Arizona. While there we celebrated Christmas 1968. I remember Uncle Al, Aunt Phyllis, and their family being there as well. We had quite the adventure that year. One thing I always looked forward to when going down to Arizona and staying with grandpa and grandma Rip was the fresh oranges, dates, and pecans. Dad and mom would say that I could spot a pecan tree from a long ways off. I took it for granted having a fresh orange right off of the tree. It tastes so much better than store bought oranges. I enjoyed going to the park and playing shuffle board with Grandpa Carl.
