1978 Mike and Tracey's Wedding

  1. Mike & Tracey’s wedding
May 4, 1978. What a wonderful day. Tracey and I had met 2 years earlier and had dated off and on most of the time during those two years while attending Ricks College. I fell in love with Tracey and knew that I wanted to marry her after our first couple of dates. I remember going back to my apartment at Ricks and telling my roommate, Ed Thomas, that Tracey was the girl I wanted to marry. I had such a wonderful feeling each time we went out. I have to admit that once we started dating that when I wasn’t with her my heart ached for her to be with me. I found her to be so fascinating and wonderful. She was loyal, faithful, and enjoyable to talk to, she had such a desire to live the gospel, considerate, she didn’t demand expensive items, so supportive, so encouraging, and she was so beautiful. I loved her smile, her cute little nose, her style of dress, and her gorgeous long hair. I was in awe of her faithfulness to the gospel and her desire to live the new found gospel that she had joined when she was just 15 years old. She truly embraced the gospel with all her heart. She was the only member of the church in her family and she knew that she wanted to be married in the temple even though it meant that none of her family would be able to go through the temple with her on such a special day in her life. Once she joined the church, she always tried to live the gospel and be a good example of the gospel to those around her and especially her family.
I remember thinking on that special day, (May 4 1978) once we go through the temple and receive that temple sealing that we would be bonded together forever. Tracey’s temple district was the Washington D.C. temple but knowing that all my family was near Idaho Falls she decided that she wanted to be married at the temple where I was from so that most of our relatives could attend. We were so excited to begin our life’s journey together that day. Tracey took out her endowments a week earlier, then on the 4th we had our sealing, and then on Saturday we had our reception up at Driggs. We spent two days in Idaho Falls and on Saturday we headed up to the ranch. We took the short cut through the dry farms. The problem was; we got stuck on the last corner before you hit the last section of road heading straight south. Dad and mom were frustrated with us because it made us late. Everything still worked out ok. After the reception Tracey and I stayed at the ranch house until Monday. Then we headed back to Chicago so that we could have a reception back there for Tracey’s family and her ward. We took JaNece Simpson and Danelle with us. That was quite fun.
